Leadership Practices That Influence Teacher Attendance in a Low and High Teacher Absentee School

The impact of teacher absenteeism is all encompassing. Teacher absenteeism affects student achievement and behavior as well as the morale of other teachers. It strains an already overburdened school budget and poorly trained substitute teachers are with students for as much as one whole year of the time that students are in school from kindergarten to twelfth grade. The primary purpose of this study was to determine what leadership practices affect teacher attendance at school. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to conduct this study. A school culture survey, which included items addressing three major areas, tasks, processes and relationships, was administered to teachers. The teachers were employed in two middle schools, one with a high rate of teacher absenteeism and one with a low rate of teacher absenteeism. There were 103 surveys completed and returned to the researcher. The researcher analyzed the data and used a t-test to determine if there were any statistical differences in the answers of the respondents. Data analysis revealed that teacher absenteeism was lower at the school where the culture was more positive. The qualitative portion of the study involved both individual and focus group interviews. Seven teachers per school were chosen at random from a list of teachers. Individual interviews as well as the focus group interviews were conducted using a series of questions designed to elicit responses about leadership practices regarding discretionary absence at their particular school

Human Security in Cambodia: A Statistical Analysis of Large-Sample Sub-National Vulnerability Data

With the goal of measuring and analyzing Cambodia human insecurity, Dr. Aldo Benini and Taylor Owen have collected a large amount of data down to the local (1,600 communes) level. At their disposal is the largest existing geo-referenced database of Cambodian security and vulnerability data. They study four types of violence: landmine and UXO strikes (most of which are victim-actuated), as well as serious crime, land conflicts, and domestic violence (perpetrated by contemporary agents). Serious crime lumps together murder, kidnapping, robberies, and theft, much of which obviously is violent. Using different types of regression models, socio-economic and war determinants are statistically significant for all types of violence. Also, they study serious crime, land conflicts, and domestic violence in various combinations, as well as in terms of a common underlying factor. The interpretation of these results in terms of unobservable constructs, however, is less certain and requires a leap of faith

The purpose of the research, as set out in the Project Brief, was to ‘examine a sample of the sites which have been registered as town or village greens (TVGs) since January 2004 as well as a sample of those that have not been registered’. The common term for both successful and unsuccessful applications is that either outcome has been ‘determined’ by Commons Registration Authority (CRA), therefore the study was an investigation into determined town and village green (dTVG) applications. The project also set out to examine whether the sites were earmarked for development in local development plans or subject to planning applications. The full diversity of sites, both approved and rejected, was analysed

    Extension Must Adopt Mobile-Friendly Websites

Mobile phones and tablets have become important tools for accessing information on the Web. We have found visitors to The Almond Doctor Extension blog and AgFax.com are increasingly using smart phones and tablets rather than desktop computers. However, only 40% of Extension websites have mobile-friendly layouts, and websites that are frustrating to use on mobile devices may be a deterrent to Web traffic and use of services. Therefore, it is critical for Extension websites to develop mobile-friendly designs to increase Extension\u27s presence on the Internet and maintain its relevance to current and future clientele

This chapter provides a description of the implementation of the European citizens’ survey, led by the French team from Aix Marseille University, as part of the HOME_EU project. The French team set out to use a telephone survey and quantitative research methods to investigate the opinions and experiences of European citizens in relation to homelessness, in addition to use a contingent valuation method to elicit the value respondents placed on the Housing First model as a potential solution to long-term homelessness. Data collection covered a 10-month period (March to December 2017). The survey produced results for European citizen’s knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) in relation to homelessness, willingness to pay (WTP) for the Housing First model, and the prevalence of homelessness among the ‘survey and the WP2 as a whole close the chapter.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
